On August 22, 2017, Sacramento Adventist Academy’s Girls Varsity Volleyball team played a scrimmage against Lodi Adventist Academy.

The team’s coach, Changsu Park, set up a rotation of six girls: Sofia Lindgren, Amaya Segundo, Sabrina Baratta, Natalie Fayard, Juliana Conrad, and Dorahima Taukei. It was time for the coin toss. Captains Sabrina Baratta and Sofia Lindgren were called forward for the coin toss. Losing the coin toss, Lodi chose to serve first and the girls were on the court ready to compete. A hard fight ended up in Lodi winning the first set. After losing a set, the Capital girls were ready for a victory. They had high energy, great compatibility, and teamwork. All their positivity and hard work earned them a victory in the second set. The third set was won by Lodi Academy and their coach Kory Gabrys.

As the games are best out of five, another set was played and though they played their hardest, unfortunately the Lady Capitals lost the match.

As Junior Amaya Segundo recounts the events of the game she expresses, “Though we may have lost our first scrimmage, it was a good practice to prepare us for a real game. Throughout the whole match I saw all the girls step up their game as they displayed all the skills they learned in practice.”

The girls are not going to let their spirits be knocked down by a loss and are ready to get back on the court and play their hearts out in their next match.
